Invitation to Exhibit at the Maldives National Art Gallery
I’ve had a very exciting invitation to exhibit 30 of my paintings at the National Art Gallery of the Maldives, in early 2009! It’s a fantastic opportunity and great honour for me to be invited to display my work, much of which is based on their landscape.
Fancy a visit to historic Arundel?
Arundel is a very pretty and historic market town in West Sussex, situated between Chichester and Worthing. As well as the River Arun, it is also home to the famous 11th century Arundel Castle, complete with original motte and gatehouse, constructed in 1068 and 1070 respectively. And what’s more, the castle has recently opened for its 2008 season on 21st March.
Arundel is easily accessed by rail and road from the South Coast and London and is under an hour away from Gatwick airport. There is some really beautiful countryside to be seen on the journey into Arundel and the narrow, cobbled streets of the town contribute to its historic feel. And if like me you are partial to a bit of shopping, it has some lovely shops too!
There is a wonderful art gallery on Tarrant Street called the Three Roses Gallery – it’s been open a year and is a fabulous, bright, contemporary space with white-washed walls, original wooden floors and beams. There are some beautiful pieces of art for sale – including, I am pleased to announce, 7 of my paintings!

I had been searching for the right gallery to represent my work – it’s the perfect space for my work and I am very proud to be able to say they are representing me.
So if you fancy a visit to historic Arundel be sure to pop into the gallery and let them know that you were recommended via my newsletter!
Confirmed Exhibition Dates for 2008
I have received confirmed dates for my exhibition in Squires Café, The Mill Hall, Rayleigh, Essex (www.themillhall.co.uk/coffeeshop.php). I will be exclusively showing 6 paintings from 28th June to 29th August 2008, from my Tropical Seascapes range. It’s a lovely café and well known art centre so if you fancy grabbing a coffee sometime or just popping in to look at the art on show, this is the place to be.
I will be exhibiting at the Essex Art & Design Show on 27th and 28th September 2008, at Cressing Temple Barns, Braintree, Essex. More details can be found at www.essexartanddesignshow.co.uk/index.htm.

In each of the paintings I have used acrylic as a base layer to establish the shapes and colours and then finished each one with thin layers of oil paint. Oil is my favourite medium but it is a slow-dryer – which suits me as I know I can come back to it even a couple of days later, and carry on as if I’d never stopped. Oil also gives that lovely sheen to the work. Acrylic in contrast is a very fast dryer, which can be useful for painting a base layer quickly. I often paint an entire painting using acrylic – it just depends on the nature of the work and how I’m feeling at that time. I like to use intuition – though my boyfriend curses me for using my ‘intuition’ at home when I’m timing the dinner – especially when it gets burnt!!
The paintings – each an original and the only one of its kind – are available to buy from www.gemmaclimpson.co.uk.
